About Ray Allison
Broker | Ray Allison, Realtors®
Ray Allison is a Houston-based commercial real estate broker, advisor, and writer with more than four decades of experience representing owners, investors, developers, tenants, institutions, acquisition groups, and owner-users across a broad range of commercial real estate assignments.
Ray’s real estate career began in the early 1980s working alongside family and business partners in property acquisition, management, development, and construction-related activities. That early exposure to every stage of the real estate process established the practical, transaction-focused approach that continues to define his work today.
In the early 1990s, Ray founded Ray Allison, Realtors®, a boutique brokerage in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood. The firm ultimately grew to more than 100 agents across two offices. In 2003, he partnered with longtime colleague Mike Spear to form AllisonSpear.com, Realtors® in the River Oaks area. The firm was later acquired by Prudential Gary Greene Realtors®, where Ray was selected to manage Inner Loop operations before launching and leading the company’s Commercial Real Estate Division.
Over the course of his career, Ray has participated in transactions ranging from local owner-user assignments to corporate leasing, investment acquisitions and dispositions, redevelopment opportunities, institutional-quality transactions, and complex multi-party negotiations. His experience includes landlord representation, tenant representation, office, industrial, retail, and land transactions, investment analysis, transaction management, and strategic advisory services.
In 2024, Ray returned to his independent roots, reestablishing Ray Allison, Realtors® as a focused, relationship-driven commercial brokerage. Today, he advises landlords, tenants, investors, acquisition groups, developers, and business owners on commercial leasing, corporate and institutional leasing assignments, investment acquisitions and dispositions, owner-user opportunities, redevelopment projects, and complex transactions requiring local market expertise, transaction management, and execution.
Known for his approachable style and clear perspective, Ray is frequently called upon to speak on real estate topics and market dynamics. Years of public speaking —along with his long-standing role as a Lector—have shaped a communication style that is thoughtful, direct, and engaging. Increasingly, that same voice is
finding its way into his writing, where he continues to develop and share stories drawn from a life spent in and around real estate, people, and place.
Clients value Ray not only for his experience but also for his ability to bring clarity, coordination, and perspective to complicated situations involving multiple stakeholders, competing objectives, and evolving circumstances.
Beyond his professional work, Ray has been deeply involved in the Houston community. His leadership roles include serving as Board Chair of the Downtown YMCA of Greater Houston and President of the Plumeria Society of America, along with supporting numerous charitable and civic initiatives. Since 2009, he has also served as a Lector at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston.
Ray is also the author of an ongoing collection of personal essays exploring people, place, memory, and the unexpected lessons found in everyday encounters. His writing reflects the same curiosity, observation, and appreciation for human relationships that have shaped his professional career.
Outside the office, Ray enjoys cooking, gardening, and spending time along Houston’s bayou trails, as well as restoring and driving antique automobiles.
